This custom knife is a MAB style Damascus drop point knife, This one was made with the female hunter in mind, There is always tons of knives for the guys but never a good custom knife made for a woman, So pink coral it is… And this one has it all, The custom knife is made from 200 plus fold tiger Stripe pattern damascus, The knife was hand ground from bar stock, Then polished, oil quenched hardened And tempered to a Rockwell hardness of 59. The knife is 7″ inches overall with a 3-1/2″ inch blade with a 3″ inch cutting edge and 1-1/8″ inch wide and just over 1/8″ inch thick.. The handle on this one is made from some stabilized and dyed Pink fossil coral. The fossil coral is found in oceans around the world and will date to 15,000 to 20,000 years old or more. I used two custom hollow brass pins in the handle and two more custom copper pins in the guards, The lanyard pin has a piece of Maine whitetail deer hide that has been tanned and dyed with two brass beads and a stainless bead.. This custom knife will come alive outside in the sun with all of its colors and swirls, Not many knife makers will work with fossil coral becuase of the amount of time it takes to get all the voids filled and the way it likes to chip or crack when your drilling it, But when you but in the time you can make a shine just like glass on the handle… The knife guard and spacers were made from solid brass bar and sheet stock and shaped to the handle by hand. I also had filed the top of the blade with my “sharp Thorn” pattern and the top of the handle in my “Double wave” pattern All done by hand with a chain saw file and a small triangle file. I do not use a dremel tool like some knife builders, and then call it file work. So you can see I put a lot of time just in the file work along with the fit and finish on this one to make it a very collectable piece, or a good working custom knife.
