This is another custom MAB Bird Trout hunting knife made from a carbon tool steel billet, Old file, By me Mark Buzzell (MAB) right here in Carmel Maine. This custom Bird Trout knife is 7-1/2″ inches overall with a 3-3/8″ inch tool steel blade 3-1/8″ inch cutting edge 1/8″ inch thick 5/8″ inch wide with a rockwell hardness of 58. The handle is made from some great looking stabilized Australian brown malle burl wood with a piece of snakewood. The brass guard with brass and aluminum spacers and pommel are all made from flat bar and sheet stock and shaped to the knife by hand. The brass with the aluminum give this one a great look to finish off this great little custom knife. The handle fits just great in your hand for a snug grip. The knife is a rat tang construction with a corby nut in the end so it will hold up in the field if you decide to give it some use. Your custom knife has also been hand sanded from 220 grit to 2,000 grit for a mirror finish on the blade and a glass look on the handle. The brown malle will come alive out in the sun showing all the burls and natural cracks, All the checks and cracks have been filled to make the handle smooth as glass.. I also hand filed the top of the blade in my “Sharp Thorn” pattern. All my file work is done by hand with a round file and a half round file, Not with a dremel like some custom knife builders do and call it file worked. So as you can see I put a lot of time into every one of my custom knives from fit and finish, To file work, So each custom knife can be used in the field or saved as a collectors piece for years to come.
