This is another custom MAB medium size hunter made from a 200 plus fold feather pattern damascus steel blade. The knife blade is marked with my MAB logo as the maker of this fine custom knife. This knife was made from a bar stock damascus billet. The knife billets are shaped, ground, polished, oil quenched hardened and tempered to rockwell of 58, then acid etched to help bring out the damascus pattern, then given one final polish, By me Mark Buzzell (MAB) right here in Carmel Maine. This custom small hunter is 7″ inches overall with a 3-1/4″ inch Damascus steel blade and a 3″ inch cutting edge 1/8″ inch thick and just over 3/4″ inch wide. The handle is made from some great looking stabilized “real” apple coral. The apple coral is very hard to come by, The coral is from the sea of china off the coast of vietnam, The coral is often found in the nets of fisherman, It is not harvested just for jewelry or knife making purposes, It’s most often dumped back into the ocean, That’s what makes it so hard to come by, It just goes to show what a real exhibition grade coral handled knife should look like when its used on a custom knife. The brass guard with brass spacers are all made from flat bar and sheet stock and shaped to the knife by hand. The brass guard and spacers and custom pins give this one a great look to finish off this great little custom knife. The handle fits just great in your hand for a snug grip. The knife is a full tang construction so it will hold up in the field if you decide to give it some use. Your custom knife has also been hand sanded from 220 grit to 2,000 grit for a glass look on the handle. I also hand filed the top of the blade in my “Sharp Thorn” pattern and the handle in my ” Double Wave” pattern. All my file work is done by hand with a round file and a half round file, Not with a dremel like some custom knife builders do and call it file worked. the lanyard is made from a piece of maine whitetail tanned leather with a custom apple coral bead, So as you can see I put a lot of time into every one of my custom knives from fit and finish, To file work, So each custom knife can be used in the field or saved as a collectors piece for years to come.
